Who is morgana in merlin series

Morgana and Morgause eventually were able to take over Camelot using the army of King Cenred, who had offered his allegiance to their plight. Morgause killed Cenred after they acquired the Cup of Life, which made the army they had acquired immortal. Morgana killed a large number of townspeople to force the knights to be loyal to her.

Morgana was defeated by Merlin, Arthur and Gwen, causing her and a wounded Morgause to flee for the time being. A year later, Morgana desired revenge on Arthur and all of Camelot. She sacrificed her sister to the Underworld in order to release spirits on Camelot. Morgana then formed an alliance with Agravaine in hopes of destroying Camelot.

Morgana killed Uther but would not be satisfied until Arthur was dead so she could claim her rightful place as Camelot's queen. Some of her schemes with Agravaine included attempting to kill Arthur in a duel, brainwashing Merlin and using him to kill Arthur and having Gwen exiled by forcing her to have an affair with the revived Lancelot. Lancelot had been reawaken using necromancy but he was only an empty vessel with Lancelot's face and none of his characteristics or memories.

Morgana wanted Gwen exiled because she claimed that Camelot's only Queen was herself and that nobody would be able to occupy that place. Morgana took over Camelot again with the help of a warlord named Helios and became queen.

Her reign was very short because Merlin and Arthur overthrew her army. Morgana was wounded in battle after attempting to escape. She met a dragon named Aithusa who healed her injuries. Morgana then used magic on Gwen, turning her evil temporarily. She brainwashed her by trapping her in a tower with mandrakes which made her hallucinate that all those she loved were against her. She then ordered to Gwen to kill Arthur by putting poison in his food.

Morgana did this so she could get throne and then planned on killing Gwen if the plan worked. During the final battle against Morgana, Arthur was on the verge of death after being stabbed by her ally Mordred with a sword forged in dragon's breath the dragon being Aithusa.

Percival and Gwaine attempted to kill Morgana by stabbing her but she captured them. Yet even in Malory some traces of her former, more benevolent character remain. After Arthur is fatally wounded fighting his illegitimate son Mordred, she is one of the mysterious women who take him to Avalon for healing.

Thus the character of Morgan is revealed to be far more complex than she initially appears. More recent depictions of Morgan, especially in literature, have attempted to convey some of this complexity.

In her book, Mists of Avalon , Marion Zimmer Bradley portrays Morgaine as a defender of the old pagan religion of Britain against the encroachment of Christianity. Although she attempts to overthrow Arthur, it is primarily to protect this way of life. In the majority of portrayals in film and television, however, Morgan continues to be a villain. Morgana is given plausible reasons for her change of heart: not only does she have magical powers in a Camelot ruled over by Uther — a king who condemns magical practitioners — but she also discovers that she is his illegitimate daughter and that he has no intention of acknowledging her.

As a result, Merlin ends up severely injuring Morgause by blasting her into a pillar - much to Morgana's devastation. Morgana hadn't always been heartless. However, she ended up hurting Merlin in some of the worst ways when he realized she was responsible for many of his friends' deaths.

For example, although she didn't do it herself, Morgana was inadvertently responsible for Lancelot's death when the knight sacrificed himself to fix her mistake.

Morgana also committed an unforgivable act when she killed Gwaine after relentlessly torturing him "The Diamond of The Day". If Merlin believed she could be redeemed, there was no chance of that happening after this. It shouldn't come as a surprise that the worst thing Merlin had ever done is to kill her. After Morgana realizes that Arthur was still alive and with Merlin, she decides to hunt them down once and for all. As soon as she finds them, Morgana wastes no time in attacking Merlin.

Believing the warlock to be incapacitated, Morgana turns her attention to her brother and taunts him about his failure. However, she fails to notice Merlin creep up behind her with Excalibur. As a result of her incompetence, she is killed immediately. The worst thing Morgana ever did to Merlin was when she caused him to fail his destiny. While Morgana met her maker in the season 5 finale, she also got the last laugh when she succeeded in killing Arthur.

Before Morgana's death, the witch managed to inflict a fatal wound on Arthur after she gave Mordred a sword forged in dragon's breath. Morgana also prevents Merlin from saving his life when she scares their horses away. She's currently starring as Lena Luthor in Supergirl.
